Social Studies 7: Medieval and Early Modern History is a new Middle School Social Studies course that emphasizes Medieval and Early Modern History. In the course, students use their historical investigation skills to examine medieval civilizations across the world. They learn how social, cultural, and technological developments led to changes in the ways that people lived and interacted with others. Units of study include Islamic civilizations, Chinese civilizations, sub-Saharan African civilizations, Medieval Japan, Meso-American and Andean civilizations, and Medieval Europe. Students then focus on the cultural and political changes brought about by the Renaissance and Reformation. Further studies uncover how the Age of Exploration, the Scientific Revolution, and the Age of Reason and Enlightenment set a course for the modern world.

World Geography is a new High School Social Studies course designed to deepen students’ understanding of geography and culture, giving them tools to navigate the complexities of global and regional interactions. Students analyze historical contexts and explore how physical and human geography shape cultures, politics, and economies, gaining critical insights into the world’s interconnectedness and uniqueness of societies. The DI and Honors versions of the course are available now. New IS and CR course versions that reflect Accelerate’s new credit recovery course design, with video based instruction throughout, will be available in mid-Summer.

Note that the Canvas and Schoology versions of the above courses are expected to be available on or around July 1st.
