Using Groups to Hide Content

Target Audience: Teachers (Buzz)

Buzz allows teachers to hide course content from students in selected groups. Before hiding content, confirm that each student is assigned to the correct group.

Before You Begin

If you haven’t created groups yet, check out this article for instructions on creating them: https://training.accelerate.education/knowledgebase/creating-groups/. Once your groups are set up, continue with the steps below.

Confirm Student Group Assignments

  1. On the teacher homepage, select the pencil icon for the course you want to update.
  2. Select the wrench icon.
  3. Choose Manage groupings.
  4. Select the group category.
  5. Check that each student is assigned to the correct group. Make any needed changes, then select Save.
  6. Return to the course editor.

Hide Course Content from a Group

  1. In the course editor, open the Group Settings tab.
  2. Find the group category you want to update. If you have more than one category, each will be listed here.
  3. Select the eye icon to hide content from a group.

You can hide an entire module or open a module folder to hide individual activities.

Important: Never hide the Participation folder or any assignments within it.

How Hidden Content Affects Students and Grades

  • Students in the group no longer see hidden items in their activity view or calendar view.
  • In a Continuous course, Buzz automatically adjusts the student’s schedule to reflect the reduced workload.
  • In a Range course, the content is removed from its originally assigned date. Buzz does not automatically reschedule it.
  • In the teacher gradebook, hidden assignments are excluded from the student’s grade calculation. A dot appears in place of the grade for assignments hidden from that student.
